Cabin Build – approaching completion

Construction of my overland truck cabin is progressing well and it should be completed within the next two or three weeks. As you can see from the photographs below, taken at the KrugXP factory in Cherkasy, Ukraine a few days ago, the kitchen and seating area are well underway, whilst the cabin paint scheme, chosen so that it would keep the cabin cooler in hot weather, looks good. I think so anyway, and since I’m paying for it, that’s what counts! The blue roof on the inside of the cabin is simply to remind me that there’s a lovely blue sky outside (hopefully!) and that I should be outside the truck a lot more than I am inside. That’s the plan anyway…

More photos to follow next week.

Cabin Seating
Cabin seating area, viewed from the kitchen

The framework you can see bottom right sits below the aft bench seat. In front of that will be the sliding table and ahead of that, to the right of this image, the ‘pilot’s seat’ which will move to the centre of the window hatch when the table is slid to the rear position. In the background is another, larger truck which you can see Krug has almost finished.

Kitchen
The cabin kitchen is coming along nicely. Now I just need to learn to cook…

The large aperture nearest the camera will house a 3 ring gas hob with oven and grill beneath. In the background you see the vertical storage which will house the freezer below and fridge in the centre section.

  • I’m seriously impressed, dude. Is there any way I can help you to get the vehicle into KSA? I don’t have any particular idea how to do it, but the resources we have are, as usual, at your entire disposal. Are we going to do Abhar or Madain Saleh when you come across, presuming I’m still here?

    • Not sure Mark but trust me, I will be drawing on every contact and potential favour offered, as needed, so Thank You in advance. Hopefully my transit visa application will ‘slip through’ the system as a result of my long term GCC residency, but we’ll see. The Hejaz Railway route is definitely of interest so Madain Saleh sounds good, Abha too – I’m loathe to turn down any opportunity to explore any ‘off the beaten path’ destinations and since KSA is off limits to so many travellers, I’m keen to see / expose more of it.

  • Just make sure you’ve got a reliable low voltage disconnect on those batteries. It just takes once to run them flat and they’re gone!

  • Excellent Website and cool Photos of your trucks’ evolution…hope you could make it to Chernobyl…and I also hope that I made the right decision with the MASTERVOLT system…

    • Thanks Dirk, it was great to see the progress, it would have been nice to see more of it! In the end I decided against going to Chernobyl – just couldn’t find the answers to the questions I had about safety there BUT Dima, Viktor’s son, did take me to the Ukrainian State Aviation Museum. Photos on my http://www.luxinflux.com website for now until I work out how to protect my images on this one 🙂
